Deep Inside Shanghai 2009
This artwork has been painted in several layers. The first layer has been dabbed onto a rough, textured and untreated canvas. With wet and coloured sand to create a cratered landscape. Then came the acrylic layer of black and white elements; then another shade of black, this time mixed with black Chinese ink to create the impression of a deep hole. Then came a pure layer with Chinese ink and various sand structures, glued together with red-black ink. After drying, I used gold leaf and a gold tone in acrylic to paint modern calligraphy animal characters on the black canvas, in the deep holes. I used a very fine brush and a decopainter coloured with gold leaf.
